The Ford Explorer has also been the source of a considerable amount of controversy, owing to a series of fatal rollover accidents that occurred with Ford Explorer vehicles boasting Firestone tires.
The Ford Explorer is meant to compete with such SUVs as the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, the Honda Pilot, the Nissan Pathfinder, and the Toyota 4Runner.
The Ford Explorer is available as a two door “Explorer Sport” vehicle as well as a four door model. Four wheel drive is an available option on the vehicle. A trim package that was initially offered on the Ford F Series trucks in the 1980s is also available on the Ford Explorer.
